Net-Monit live demo

The real Net-Monit pages, running on fake data in your browser. Use Explain mode and Page guide in the bottom bar to read what every control does. Nothing is installed, sent or saved on a server.

  • 6check methods: Ping, SNMP, SSH, PowerShell, Disk/Share, HTTP
  • 13device types
  • 3escalation levels (L1 to L3)
  • 10pages, all in the demo
  • 173options explained

About the demo: GitHub Pages hosts static files only, so the demo runs the project’s real web interface (the actual pages, styles and scripts) with a browser-side stand-in for the server and invented data. Add a device, change a threshold and watch an alert fire, run a speed test, scan a subnet, activate a license. Nothing is sent to any real device. Use Explain mode and Page guide in the bottom bar of the demo to read what every control does.

V11.4 demo of Net-Monit V11.3. Ping, SNMP, SSH, PowerShell, scanning, email, SMS and voice calls are simulated. Data is fake and resets when you reset the demo or open a new tab. The browser speed test is the only real measurement and contacts Cloudflare only when you press it.

How it works

One small web service on a server you own. It polls your devices, stores results in a local database and serves the dashboard.

  1. Your browser: dashboard, settings, alerts
  2. Net-Monit service: Python, Flask, SQLite, scheduler, alert engine, encrypted credentials
  3. Your devices and sites: routers, switches, firewalls, servers, NAS, websites
  4. People: email, SMS, voice call

1. Add monitors

Type an IP or URL, pick a device type and a check method, or scan a subnet and add what it finds.

2. Set thresholds

Warning and critical limits per metric, globally, per type, per method or per device. Sensible values are one click away.

3. Get alerted

Alerts confirm before firing, repeat politely, escalate to support and managers, and close themselves on recovery.

What it monitors

Each device gets one check method. The method decides what is measured.

MethodBest forWhat you get
Ping (ICMP)Anything with an IPUp or down, latency, packet loss
SNMPSwitches, routers, firewalls, printers, UPSAdds CPU, bandwidth, interface data, uptime, device type
PowerShellWindows serversCPU, memory, disk, Windows services, scheduled tasks
SSHLinux serversCPU, memory, disk, remote commands
Disk / Shared folderNAS, file serversFree and used space of a UNC or mounted path
HTTP / HTTPSWebsites and web appsStatus code, response time, DNS, TCP connect, SSL handshake, SSL days left, keyword match

Device types: Network device, Router, Switch, Firewall, Wireless AP, Windows server, Linux server, VMware host, NAS, Printer, UPS, IP camera, Other. The type decides the dashboard tab and which thresholds apply.

How alerting works

Built to avoid false alarms and alert fatigue.

Check

Each device is polled on its own interval (default 30 seconds).

Evaluate

Every metric is compared with its thresholds. The most specific rule wins: device override, then check method, then device type, then global, then built-in defaults.

Confirm

A problem must last the configured wait before an alert is sent. A device is only declared Offline after several failed checks in a row, with re-checks in between.

Notify

Level 1 goes to the admin group. Level 2 adds the support group, level 3 the managers, each after its own delay, by email, SMS and voice call.

Control

Acknowledge to silence repeats, Resolve to close, or let recovery close it. A recovery notice is sent. Every action is written to the audit log.

Every page and option, explained

The same text you get inside the demo with Explain mode. Open a page group to read it.

Dashboard 34

The live wall of every monitored device and site. Each tile is one monitor and refreshes automatically (about every 10 seconds in the real app). Colour tells you state at a glance: green healthy, amber warning, red critical, grey offline.

Summary bar

Summary counters
Counts of Healthy, Warning, Critical and Offline monitors and the total. Click a counter to filter the tiles to that severity; click again to clear.

Infrastructure Overview cards

Overview cards
Top row: latest WAN speed (download, upload, ping, ISP from the Speed Test history), devices online/total and apps/sites online/total. Only monitors with 'Show on Infrastructure Overview dashboard' ticked are counted.

Category tabs

General tab (All)
Shows every monitor regardless of kind. The number is how many tiles match.
Network tab
Routers, switches, wireless APs and anything checked by Ping or SNMP.
Firewall tab
Devices whose type is Firewall.
Windows tab

Linux tab
Linux servers and anything checked by SSH.

Speed Test 6

Measures internet speed two ways and keeps a history.

Tests

Test WAN Speed

Try it: guided scenarios

Each card opens the full demo in a new tab on the right page, with a hint bar explaining what to try.

Dashboard tour

turn on Explain mode (bottom bar), then click anything: tiles, filter counters, category tabs, view buttons. Try the red SQL Server tile, then the grey Gate Camera.

Open scenario → (opens in a new tab)

Make an alert fire

open Thresholds, lower CPU warning/critical (for example 20/30) and Save. Then open Alerts: servers with CPU above that now raise alerts, using the same engine as the real app. Acknowledge one.

Open scenario → (opens in a new tab)

Refused threshold values

in Settings > Thresholds set a warning higher than the critical value (or SSL days the wrong way round) and Save. You get a clear message, as in the real app.

Open scenario → (opens in a new tab)

Run a speed test

press Test WAN Speed to watch the simulated live gauge (ping, download, upload), or Test Your PC Speed for a real test from your browser.

Open scenario → (opens in a new tab)

See the Viewer role

use the account menu to sign out. As a signed-out viewer, host addresses show as '*** (admin only)' and settings pages are hidden, as in the real app.

Open scenario → (opens in a new tab)

Run the real thing

Free. Runs on Windows or Linux.

Windows

Right-click Setup.bat, Run as administrator. A wizard installs the files, registers the Windows service and opens the dashboard.

Linux

Registers a systemd service.

chmod +x setup.sh
sudo bash setup.sh

Manual, any OS

The port comes from NETMON_PORT or config.yaml.

pip install -r requirements.txt
python app.py

Good to know before you deploy

First login

On first start Net-Monit creates an admin account admin@email.com with a random token and saves it in data/FIRST-RUN-ADMIN-TOKEN.txt. Log in with it, then change it in the Admin Panel. The file is deleted at first login.

Licensing

30-day trial, no key needed. After that the license is free: copy your Device ID and Activation Code from the License page, send both to us from the contact page, and paste the key you receive (4 to 7 business days). Keys are Ed25519-signed and verified offline.

Honest limits of the demo

No real ping, SNMP, SSH, PowerShell, scanning, email, SMS or voice. All data is invented and resets when you press Reset demo or close the tab. License keys are only format-checked here. Logo and background uploads are not kept.
